Wing Chun is a close quarters Chinese Kung Fu system. Closing distance, controlling an opponents arms and the use of short, heavy power are principle strategies. Wing Chun is rich in techniques, affording the chance to deeply explore the human body. By optimising biomechanics and position, skilled practitioners are able to efficiently overcome bigger and stronger opponents. This makes Practical Wing Chun suitable for people of all ages and body types.

Sifu Charlie Elderton

‘I began practicing Kung Fu 20 years ago and have been teaching in Winchester for more than 15. Wing Chun has been practiced for centuries and developed into many forms, interpreted by many masters. I started my practice learning Wing Tsun, of Leung Ting, Ip Man lineage. I then developed my current skills practising the Practical Wing Chun of Grand Master Wan Kam Leung of Wong Shun Leung lineage.

I learned the core of my Kung Fu from my Sifu Benno Wai, creator of UCT International, headquartered in Amsterdam. I met Sifu Wai in 2006 and over the years have benefited from his private tuition and many seminars in the UK. He remains the most impressive martial artist I have met.

I love practicing and teaching Wing Chun. A social evening focused on moving the body, power & balance is a great counterpart to the routine thinking & movement patterns that can fill up the day. I find it deeply rewarding to see my students as they grow into skill and confidence. My personal approach to training includes Wing Chun practice, working the kettlebells, skipping & dancing.’
